    PROGRAM: “BACKYARD BEEKEEPING”

    PRESENTED BY: Ginger Gage

Bio: "I become a Master Gardener in 2014. At that time, there were not any beekeepers in the club that Extension Agent Steve Chaney knew of, so this became my MG intern project. I have given my presentation to approximately 450 grade school kids and to College Horticulture classes, garden clubs, retirement clubs, etc.

My husband Ted and I began beekeeping in our backyard in Garland. Joining the Trinity Valley Bee Keepers Club, we eventually had three hives. In 2011, we bought 30 acres near 730 S between Azle and Weatherford. We moved our hives to the ranch that same fall and have had bees ever since. So far, we have built a 5,000-sq. ft. shop with a guesthouse, a barn, a garden shed/well house combined, and now are building a home there. I am originally from north central Kansas where I grew up as a country girl. In 1995, I was given the opportunity to transfer with my job to the Dallas area, where I worked for Ryder Logistics for 15 years in Plano. Retiring in 2009 was when my husband and I decided we wanted to move to the country. We have two sons and four granddaughters, who love the ranch. My interests, beside gardening and beekeeping, are oil and watercolor painting, yoga, working at the Community Care Center, director of my Sunday School Class, the church choir, and my love of the outdoors.
